Why and What
Intent
Many hours were spent designing our curriculum so that it was right for the children of our school family. We thought about our vision and what we want for our children. This enabled us to build a curriculum for them, a curriculum linked to their lives and our vision for them and wider society. In practice, this means a curriculum that will enable them to:
Feed their minds
Achieve their best
Make a difference
Imagine the impossible
Live our Values and know that
You are Loved
Feed their minds
We want children to build their knowledge and understand how knowledge from one era or subject can be built upon. We want them to compare, contrast and question events in history, peoples’ choices and why things happen.
Achieve their best
We wanted to create a curriculum that values all children and sees their unique talents. We therefore have a broad and balanced curriculum to enable this to happen. We ensure that lessons are taught through a range of styles and with a range of resources so that they are accessible to all –we want all our children to excel.
Make a difference
Our curriculum ensures that children think about what a difference they can make to the world around them, particularly from a social and environmental point of view. They learn about others who have made a difference and we want them to relate this to themselves and to know that this is in all of us. It links to our mission for courageous advocacy and our Christian values of love, respect and friendship for everyone and everything around us.
Imagine the impossible
Our curriculum purposefully looks at amazing places and events from around the world. They study the fascinating ways in which science shapes our world, how oceans effect our lives, how artists can create beautiful pieces from seemly simple brush strokes and how music can evoke feelings. All subjects are taught against the background of a growth mind-set where children are taught that mistakes are brilliant and there is no limit to what they can achieve.
Live our values
Throughout all subjects, we will make connections with our school values and that of being a Church school. Children will learn how values have driven things for hundreds of years and those values may differ but always influence how people behave. We expect children to live the values through all subjects, be it team work in PE, kindness in PSHE or respect through all class discussions. Throughout the curriculum, children will have opportunities to show the values and see their importance.
You are loved
Because no matter what, how, when you teach it, it should be with love.
